Minutes of the PCC for St. Andrew's

Minutes of P.C.C. Meeting 12th October 2009
held at Brambles

1.    Louise Evans opened the meeting with prayers. 

2.    Present: Penny Bates; Louise Evans; Elaine Major;  Jenny Whitfield; Peter Maltby;  Rupert Little;  John Whitfield (Chair).  

Apologies:  Rev. Hugh Ellis; Pat Harvey; Pauline Perkins.
3.    Minutes for the previous meeting having been circulated were taken as read acceptance was proposed by Louise Evans, seconded Penny Bates, all in agreement; duly signed by John Whitfield as a true record of the meeting.

4.    Matters Arising:  The web page is being updated by Celia Mayor; Louise Evans is to reimburse the cost to this. Elaine Major is to give Celia an update on the fund raising and details of the Quinquennial. David Major is to liaise with Celia regarding fund raising on the site. The Harvest Supper had been very successful with many new faces.   The ballot that had been held regarding the menu had results; 31 for cottage pie; 28 for Lasagne.   Other suggestions were chicken curry; hot pot; salad; sausage, beans and mash. A pizza night was also suggested. £587.60p had been raised on the night.

The loan made to Huish P.C.C. for the Angel project had now been repaid in full as agreed.

The Churchwarden position was raised by Peter Maltby.   John Whitfield confirmed he has given notice of resignation which will take effect from the A.P.C.C. John Whitfield is to have a further meeting with Rev. Hugh Ellis and + Peter and  + Michael and David Mayor later this month to discuss the possible way forward. Peter Maltby proposed John Whitfield takes proposition to the meeting that the P.C.C. does not want things to change seconded Penny Bates.

During the Rectors sabbatical St. Andrew’s Services will be covered by the Bishops, David Mayor and Jane Twitty.


5.    Reports:

  • Fabric Report:
    The emergency items of the Health and Safety issues have been dealt with; being the falling masonry and coping stones on the ha ha.   Warning signs have been erected and the areas screened off. The roofing etc., is to be looked at in the spring. David Major and John Whitfield have cleared the gutters out.   Church yard tidy up group to be organised in the Spring. Following Louise Evans’ discussions Billy Young from High Ham, she feels she is not able to give the time necessary to take on the grant applications. It was thought the Parish Council may make a grant for specific projects, i.e. roof repairs or boundary wall repairs.
  • Financial Report: Deposit Account stands at £14,239 with £2,455 in the current account. The hymn books have been purchased and placed in the Church.
6.    A new Curate will be joining the Team next year.

7.    Carol Service -- Elaine Major is to organise the children’s Nativity play and Readers Louise Evans is to approach Mike Liley regarding the adult Readers.
Midnight Service and Christmas Day Service and to be taken by the Bishops.

8.    Forthcoming Events: 24th October a Blessing is arranged for 5pm.
Remembrance Service 10.50am Service 8th November.
Wreaths are to be laid by representatives from the Parish Council; Village Hall; Playing Fields and Snapdragons  The Parish Council is to be approached regarding the reinstatement of the sign to the Church.

Elaine Major advised that a Jazz evening arranged for 13th of February, tickets will be £7.50 each to include a light buffet and bar.


9.    Date of next meeting to be arranged.


John Whitfield closed the meeting with the Grace.
